Zaha’s aria

Just few days ago I have posted a very cool TED session about architecture coming from the legendary musician, a frontman of “Talking Heads” David Byrne. And today “accidentally” another great piece has been presented to the world. Paradoxically, this time it’s a music coming from the legendary architect…

Of course you know that famous line from Goethe: “I call architecture frozen music.” Well… I think, the German genius would rephrase his line after seeing this project. This is not frozen, ladies & gentlemen. This is a fantastic aria of architectural diva. So enjoy listening.

New Guangzhou Opera from Zaha.

…and for some reason I have no doubt that David Byrne would be happy to perform here.

Bravo, Zaha!

P.S. Here’s some additional project info, I didn’t have at the time of the initial publication.

.

Project director: Woody K.T. Yao, Patrik Schumacher

Project leader: Simon Yu

Local design institute: Guangzhou Pearl River Foreign Investment Architectural Designing Institute (Guangzhou, China)

Structural engineers: SHTK (Shanghai, China); Guangzhou Pearl River Foreign Investment Architectural Designing Institute

.

In fact, this unique project of the highest complexity has been entirely developed and built by the Chinese teams.

Given the level of the structural engineering, façade detailing and interior finishes quality (based on the photos of course) my BRAVO exclamation should be first of all addressed to the Chinese specialists.
